Rocco Dillon has a hole behind the cistern in cell 14 that he has been working since April and that goes eleven feet to the utility trench, and in ninety seconds of riot he can either finish it or defend it.  You defend it. You stand in the doorway of a cell for four minutes and you do not let one man through, and you do not hit anybody more than once, and when the guards come through you are the only man on the floor still standing and you say nothing at all.  He does not thank you. He looks at you for a long moment on the way past.  That night, in the dark, from the bottom bunk, Rocco Dillon says the first eleven words he has said to you in eleven days.
